HISTORY OF USM

establishment of USM was began when the agreement that has been aproved by DEWAN UNDANGAN NEGERI PULAU PINANG year 1962.They suggested that one university in this state ,the first site chosen is at Sungai Ara

April 1969,Proffesor Hamzah Sendut has been chosen as a vice chancelor.The campus at Sungai Ara has been changed to Minden at 1971.USM,now has one main campus and two brunch campus located at Nibong Tebal and Kubang Kerian Kelanta.

By using universiti dalam taman consept,USM has been known as a green university that care about environment.

From the research university,USM has been chosen APEX (accelarated programme of excellent ) at September 2008.It has a great responsibility to xeplore the future by no damaging the environmen.USM now ate attention of the world on high educational level.This is a great challenge to USM as they try to improve the world of better future
